Stepping out of a minimum wage position can be a challenging task. For students in Goodwill's Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) training program, the path to a new, higher-paying career takes only a quick seven weeks.
Goodwill's CNA program prepares students to pass the Nurse Aide Training (NAT) State Certification Exam and to work as State-Certified Nurse Assistants in a medical setting.
This program is offered in both Knoxville and Morristown. Both programs are taught by a Registered Nurse (RN), and include up to 164 hours of classroom and clinical instruction on the proper physical and psychological care for patients.
During the final phase of the program, participants receive approximately two weeks of on-site, performance-based clinical experience in various healthcare settings. This "hands-on" experience provides the participants with an opportunity to utilize their newly learned skills and to build the self-confidence necessary to successfully pass the state's NAT exam and obtain employment as a CNA.
Ask any CNA student and they'll tell you that the course is rigorous. There is, however, an abundance of support from Goodwill staff and instructors, making the course accessible for individuals who don't typically thrive in a classroom setting or who may not have been in a classroom in decades. Students appreciate the course's career days, in which students prepare resumes and meet hiring employers from healthcare facilities across East Tennessee.
Out of the last group of Knoxville CNA students who took their NAT State Certification Exam, 100% of students passed their exam are now employed as a direct result of their CNA training.
